Spectral beam splitting technology for increased conversion efficiency in solar concentrating systems: a review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Solar concentrating systems that employ one or more quantum receivers may realize improved energy utilization and higher electric conversion efficiency by incorporating spectral beam splitting technology. Such techniques were investigated in thermophotovoltaic conversion, introduced in the early 1960s, and in concentrating PV devices using cells of different band-gap materials, proposed as early as 1955. One major application was found in systems combining quantum and thermal receivers. This article presents a review of the various solar hybrid beam splitting systems proposed in the literature and the different spectrum splitting strategies employed. r 2004 Elsevier B.V. Shockley Read Hall equation poses a limit to the maximum conversion efficiency of broadband solar radiation attainable by means of a single bandgap converter. A possible approach to overcome such a limit is to convert different parts of the broadband spectrum using different single junction converters. We consider here a different modus operandi where a single low-cost optimized plastic prismat...
متن کاملA systematic approach for a better thermal management of photovoltaic systems- A review
Solar energy is the highly recognized energy source, capable of fulfilling the world’s future energy demands. The solar photovoltaic technology involves the unmediated transformation of sunlight into electricity. A little fraction is converted into electricity and the remaining gets exhausted as unused heat. This results in an increase in the operating temperature of the PV Panel. The conversio...

Multijunction photovoltaics enable significantly improved efficiency over their single junction analogues by mitigating unabsorbed sub-bandgap photons and voltage loss to carrier thermalization. Lateral spectrum-splitting configurations promise further increased efficiency through relaxation of the latticeand current-matching requirements of monolithic stacks, albeit at the cost of increased op...

In this paper we investigate the use of holographic filters in solar spectrum splitting applications. Photovoltaic (PV) systems utilizing spectrum splitting have higher theoretical conversion efficiency than single bandgap cell modules. Dichroic band-rejection filters have been used for spectrum splitting applications with some success however these filters are limited to spectral control at fi...
متن کاملSpectral splitting photovoltaics using perovskite and wideband dye-sensitized solar cells
The extension of the light absorption of photovoltaics into the near-infrared region is important to increase the energy conversion efficiency. Although the progress of the lead halide perovskite solar cells is remarkable, and high conversion efficiency of >20% has been reached, their absorption limit on the long-wavelength side is ∼800 nm. To further enhance the conversion efficiency of perovs...
